Potrero Canyon Buffet Review at Morongo Casino

On special Mondays when my wife works late and Ronan is at his grandma's, I get to pig out by myself and eat whatever I want. I usually go the quick and greasy route and gorge myself on a family pack of supermarket fried chicken but today was different. Today I felt like a little treat because I've been working hard lately.

Morongo Casino is less than 15 minutes away and I decided that I would give myself a decadent Vegas style experience by going to the Potrero Canyon Buffet. I've always loved their seafood and prime rib Sundays but today was their more affordable Mexican Monday lineup.

Enjoying a dinner fit for the King of the North

I felt kind of weird going to Morongo by myself and eating alone but I had the craving and couldn't fight it. After finishing the Game of Thrones season 6 finale last night, I needed a meal fit for a king.

Mexican Mondays at Morongo Casino Buffet
Pork Tenderloin, Turkey with Gravy, Orange Chicken, Cheese Bread, and Menudo. Whoa.

This was my first plate. It was quite an odd combination but if you know me you know I always have to try the Menudo no matter where I am. A lot of people are turned off by it but there's something about the chewy lining of a cow's stomach that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The pork and turkey were good as well. The sweat and sour pork was much better than the orange chicken though. The star of the plate was the freshly baked jalapeno cheese bread. It was soft, warm, salty, and spicy with a slightly crispy cheese crust. It was exceptional.

Chicken Colorado, Carne Asada, Stuffed Sole, Coconut Shrimp, and Roast Beef with Au Jus

My second plate packed a protein punch. The roast beef with au jus was quite tasty but the real winner was the stuffed sole. It was flavorful, flaky, and buttery. It melted in my mouth and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finished my meal fit for a Targaryen with a few choice morsles from Potrero's large selection of desserts. My favorite was the chocolate covered cream puff. I was so full that I had to move up a belt buckle hole to fit every last bit in.

The service at Potrero Canyon Buffet was really good. The servers were very nice and I never had empty plates stacked up on my table. I was very happy with the way I was served.

I've actually done a review of the Morongo Buffet here before about 5 years ago. Read about it here: Morongo Buffet Review

I'm really glad to live near such a cool place and definitely will come back more often. I might even bring my family this time!

What's been in my mouth?

Mark Lim - Mmm unhealthy eating! I started the week trying to eat better (e.g. yogurt, peaches, bananas, other crap) but ended it with a all out passionate prime rib buffet brawl at Morongo Casino.

My body has been craving fruit instead of sour gummy worms and fancy cakes lately which has helped me with my energy levels but has taken a toll on my fatty blogging.

That's why I decided to treat myself to the rocking all you can eat Saturday night buffet at Portrero Canyon Buffet inside Morongo Casino

Getting ready to stuff the face

The Prime Rib Buffet is normally $18.95 but you get a $2 discount with a players club card which makes it almost affordable. The food and selection is pretty good but I usually have to aim for about 4-5 plates like this to get my money's worth.

On Monday Nights they have the $10.95 Mexican Buffet which is an amazing deal because the only difference is they don't have prime rib and crab legs but you'll have to wait about 20-30 minutes in line along with the other cheapskates.
This is the horrible pant load I normally have to eat from 7-Eleven when I'm at work. On Tuesdays Go-Go Taquitos are 75 Cents and Hot Dogs are about $2. Pretty disgusting but you can't beat that price and the walking distance.

My plans for the future is to bring a sandwich to work or something really simple so we can save money and have a nice dinner out at least once a week so I can keep blogging.
